About Maria Malcolm, Ph.D., LP
I am a licensed psychologist in South Carolina, and also hold
psychology licenses in Oregon and Washington State. After earning my
South Carolina license in 2013, I was privileged to join Psychological
and Counseling Associates of the Lowcountry.

My primary therapeutic focus is working with adults, adolescents and
children on an individual basis. Issues treated include mood disorders,
anxiety, social skills, relationship issues, parenting, life transitions, and
children, which may include intellectual and/or personality assessment.

Over the course of my career I have enjoyed working with diverse groups of clients,
providing a variety of therapeutic and diagnostic services. I received my Bachelor of Arts
degree in Psychology from Loyola University in New Orleans. I later earned a Masters
degree in Psychology at the University of Richmond, before completing doctoral work at
The George Washington University. I completed a psychology internship, accredited by the
American Psychological Association, at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New
Orleans. During internship, I had the opportunity to complete 2 rotations on inpatient
psychiatric units, working with adult and child/adolescent populations. I also completed a
rotation at a residential chemical dependency facility.

After completing graduate school in 1998, I accepted a position at Highline West Seattle
Mental Health Center. At HWSMHC I designed social skills groups for children with
behavioral issues through Seattle Public Schools. I designed and ran treatment groups in
the Child and Adolescent program at HWSMHC, and provided individual therapy to children,
adolescents and families. I also had the opportunity to serve as an instructor at the
Washington School of Professional Psychology. After earning my psychology license in
Washington State in 2000, I accepted a position at Becker & Associates. Clinical duties
there included conducting parenting evaluations, and providing individual and family
therapy to children and adolescents involved with the State. In 2004 I accepted a position at
Vancouver Guidance Clinic and remained there until 2011. At VGC I performed custody
evaluations, parenting evaluations, disability determination evaluations, and facilitated
parenting groups. I also provided expert witness testimony to the State of Washington.

On a personal note, I live in Bluffton with my husband and two children. I enjoy running,
reading, volunteering and traveling. I also enjoy continued learning about mental health,
wellness and the mind/body connection.
