|About Jackie Mathisen, MA, LPC
& Practice Owner
After completing her degree, she started her career as a general mental health
clinician in a private mental health facility and eventually went on to become the
clinical coordinator of an in-house specialty unit. Concurrently, Jackie founded her
own private practice in New Jersey treating individuals, families, and couples. She
has also worked with children of military families, utilizing creative and play therapies
to assist in adapting to the unique challenges of military life. Jackie and her young
family relocated to South Carolina to the Bluffton/Hilton Head area to be closer to
family, warmer weather, and to spoil her dogs with weekly swims in the ocean.
Jackie specializes in the treatment of eating disorders in individuals of all ages. She
has extensive experience collaborating with other professionals to create a team
approach to treatment and care, which is essential in supporting a person through
the stages of change needed for success. Accepting patients aged 10 and above,
she uses this philosophy in tackling any issue, including depression, anxiety,
couple/family issues, grief/loss, adolescent struggles, and lifestyle change issues.
With her diverse background of skills and experiences, Jackie brings a wide range
of creativity and knowledge to her craft. She works from the heart, with a healthy
dose of reality, to create a mixture of empathy and genuineness in her approach to
treatment. As an avid outdoor and animal lover, she brings warmth and compassion
to everything she does and welcomes any challenge that walks through the door.
Jackie began working in the field of human services after
graduating with her undergraduate degree in Sociology/Social
Work, working as an assistant for an addictions counseling
nonprofit organization in the heart of Newark, NJ. Shortly
thereafter, she returned to school and obtained her Master’s
degree in marriage & family therapy from The College of New
