About Janet Meyer, MSW, LISW-CP
Dr. Helene Stoller
Licensed Psychologist
& Practice Owner
from Adelphi University, Garden City, NY in 1976. In addition to over 25
years in private practice, Janet has worked in several professional settings
including inpatient psychiatry at a major hospital in NYC, substance
abuse, nursing home, and home care.  She has been successful in
helping clients with their adjustment to many of life's transitions.  Some of
these transitions include adjustment to loss, retirement, new and chronic
illness, lifestyle, caregiving and family/couple issues to name a few.  Her
experience includes working with clients struggling with substance abuse
Rounds at NY Hospital and has presented papers at the Gerontological Society of America and the
Northeastern Gerontological Society.  She was honored with an award from the Queensborough
Council For Social Welfare "Outstanding Service to the People of Queens and to the Social Work
Profession."  In 2013 she became a certified case manager under the National Association of
Social Work's advanced training program.  She worked as a geriatric care manager for several
years.  In addition to supervising social work interns in their clinical work, Janet has participated on
professional panels with regard to end of life decision making.

Janet likes a challenging case.  She has worked with various populations in a variety of settings.
For example, she has specialized in the concerns of adults and seniors.  She is trained in the
treatment of several mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, grief, bipolar,
substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, and mental health clearance for bariatric
surgery.  She has been helpful in teaching clients new ways to cope when the old ways were no
longer working.  She is proficient in individual, couple, and family therapy.  She is experienced in
the treatment of older adolescents as well as disabled adults

Janet has continued to study and learn additional treatment methods, including EMDR therapy.
Other methods used in her practice include relaxation techniques for stress reduction,
mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused treatment, psychoanalytical, supportive
counseling, couple and family systems therapy.  She enjoys difficult cases and aims to be creative
and eclectic in her approach.  Working toward agreed-upon goals and examining the resistance
that gets in the way of achieving these goals while developing new coping strategies is paramount
in her philosophy of treatment.

On a personal note, Janet moved to Bluffton, SC from Long Island, NY in January 2015.  She is not
new to the south having attended high school in Atlanta.  In her leisure time, Janet enjoys playing
with her new dog, square dancing, and face timing with her daughters and grandchildren.  Her
personal goals include leading a healthy and active lifestyle and improving her computer and
technical skills.
