About Joe Gossage, MA, LPC
Licensed Psychologist
& Practice Owner
I have been helping individuals, groups, couples, and youth understand and cope
with troubling issues and Mental Health problems since that time. I can relate to
couple and marital issues, as I was previously married and helped raise a son and a
daughter to adulthood.  I also believe that I can relate to many cultural differences
and idiosyncrasies in our society because I have traveled extensively and worked
with various culturally diverse populations.   With a career spanning 18 years, I have
successfully treated trauma initiated by sexual abuse, family conflict, and other Post
Traumatic events (PTSD).   While working in outpatient clinics, psychiatric hospitals,
and in my own private practice, I have treated those suffering from depression,
anxiety, addiction, obsessions and compulsions, oppositional defiant behaviors, and
anger issues.   I believe that treating anxiety disorders such as Obsessive
Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Panic Disorder are my specialties.  But I have had
great success treating those suffering with depression and anger issues too.  Most
recently I have been working with elementary students in a school environment as a
Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC).  This involves not only using short term
solution focused counseling with youth, but also helping their parents and families to
deal with various problems including relationship and deployment issues.

I utilize accepted evidence-based treatment therapies including Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Solution Focused
Therapy (SFT).  These therapeutic models have fit well with the adult, child, family,
and adolescent populations I have served.

When not working with clients, I enjoy hiking, fishing, and most other outdoor
activities. I also love to travel and enjoy experiencing other cultures and seeing how
they handle the day to day problems we all contend with.

I sincerely hope that you will consider working with me in therapy, as it is my goal to
enable you to find a more full, productive, and enjoyable life.
I was born in North Georgia and lived there most of my life until
my college education began.  My undergraduate degree was
focused on earth sciences and city planning. It was from these
studies that I eventually became employed as an engineering
manager for the former BellSouth Telecommunication
Corporation. During my service at BellSouth, I completed my
Master’s Degree in Counseling from the Georgia School of
Professional Psychology in the year 2000.
